Leicestershire Parish Councils

I have lived in Harcourt since 1987 and initially became involved with the Parish Council by regularly attending its meetings in order to prepare the notes which appear in The Chronicle. For several years I also wrote a regular column in our local newspaper and now occasionally help out with proof-reading on lay -up Sundays. Earlier, whilst a member of KH Conservation Society, I played a leading role in bringing about the publication in 1995 of the first version of the Harcourt Historic Trail.
I was co-opted on to the PC in 1994, was subsequently elected and served as Chairman from 2000 to 2007. I am a long standing member of the Kibworth Joint Recreational Committee.
Dealing with the long term strategic issues presented to the Council-such as the Structure and Local Plans promulgated by the higher tiers of Local Government-is one of my specialities and I am keen to promote the use of modern technology in our internal affairs and external communications with the public and other agencies.
I actively and vigorously opposed the large-scale housing development at Warwick Road and now that permission has been given I expect to have a role in the on-going discussions with the developer concerning detailed plans and to participate in the dialogue on developer contributions. I would like to see speed cameras, or at least camera signs on the A6 and safety improvements made at the junctions. I think the Kibworth by-pass debate should be re-opened and am in favour of a local railway station but think that this is best sited adjacent to the Great Glen by-pass.
